Getting started with Twitter

TWITTER
Most of us have a twitter account, but very few of us know how to use a Twitter account effectively.
So we  thought of having a post on basics of Twitter.

What is a Tweet?

A tweet is a post which is similar to status update in facebook , but it has a character limit of 140 words.

How to Tweet?

Log in to your twitter account , on the right extreme corner you can find "Compose New Tweet "
option click on it .

A new window appears , type your status(update, tweet) briefly because there is a character limit of 140

when you are done with typing, click on Tweet , Now all your followers can view your tweet .

What is a retweet?

It is similar to sharing a friend's  post in facebook , place your mouse cursor on the tweet , a retweet option will appear below it click on it.

What Are Hashtags ("#" Symbols)?

  • People use the hashtag symbol # before a relevant keyword or phrase (no spaces) in their Tweet to categorize those Tweets and help them show more easily in Twitter Search.
  • Clicking on a hashtagged word in any message shows you all other Tweets marked with that keyword.
  • Hashtags can occur anywhere in the Tweet – at the beginning, middle, or end.
  • Hashtagged words that become very popular are often Trending Topics.
Example: In the Tweet below, @eddie included the hashtag #FF. Users created this as shorthand for "Follow Friday," a weekly tradition where users recommend people that others should follow on

To post a mention(@) on Twitter:

Type your Tweet as you normally would, but replace any names you include with that person's @username. For example: "hello @Twitter!"
in this way you can tweet about anyone(if you know his/her username) on twitter , they may/may not be in your followers list .

note: be sure that there is no space bettwen "@" and username of the person

This is the end of our first part on "Getting started with Twitter" we will be soon with the next part. Till then "Happy Tweeting ;)"

please  do leave your valuable feedback/comments.
